General Information

Minimum duration: 12 months; maximum duration: 26 months.

CREDITS: Master Students must take 96 credit units to be eligible for the title,
of which 24 are credits in courses, and 72 are credits in research activities and
thesis writing.

MANDATORY COURSES: – Masters students must enroll and pass on at least
one of the following courses: “5925713 – General Entomology I” or “5925714 –
General Entomology II”.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE: Mandatory for Brazilians and Foreigners: Students must demonstrate proficiency in English. Applicants must demonstrate minimum reading ability in a written exam taken during the same period as the general entomology exam. Alternatively, applicants may demonstrate proficiency in English by submitting a copy of a certificate of English proficiency issued by an internationally recognized test (e.g. TOEFL). Certificates accepted and minimum score required in those tests will be announced in the website of the program. Foreign students who are not native speakers must also demonstrate Portuguese proficiency up to thirteen (13) months from enrollment through a program exam and/or the ‘Celpe Bras’ offered by institution accredited by MEC (Brazilian Ministry of Education and Culture) graded minimally as “Intermediate”.

QUALIFYING EXAMINATION: Not required for Master’s degree

SCIENTIFIC REPORT: Up to 15 months from enrollment, observing the following deadlines: May 15 th and October 15 th . An activity report should illustrate main results related to the project and other academic activities. The report shall include the following sections: Title, Abstract of the research proposal, Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion, Partial Conclusions, Time Line, Difficulties (when applicable), References, and Appendices (when applicable).
